Dear users of gemiusTraffic!

Trying to satisfy the needs of our customers, we have enriched the gemiusTraffic interface by adding a number of new functionalities. Most of the innovations have been made in the "URL" tab. It is now possible to define nodes used to filter groups of web pages meeting predefined criteria; URL's can now be converted to lowercase. Moreover, a function has been provided to users to allow them to export data to Excel format. Also, we have changed the number format applied to numbers presented in the interface.

A URL address is a format of addressing online resources, most often associated with web site addresses and in this function it is used with reference to the data presented in the gemiusTraffic interface.

With the mentioned tab URL you can observe data referring to particular URL addresses being a part of a researched web site. It is different than in the case of the tab Statistics, where data concerns web pages where particular tracking scripts were embedded.

Have a nice reading!

Filtering nodes

The filtering nodes enable you to select a group of web sites on the basis of criteria defined by a user. As a result, the user will have access to data concerning only the group of the previously selected web sites.

Crating filters is available upon selecting the tab "URL filters" and the button "New" within the section "URL".

Every user has a possibility to choose keywords that are going to be included within the URL addresses or their fragments, or those which will be excluded.

The expressions can be included or excluded within the following elements:

Hostname
This is a substring of characters placed before the first "/", ":" or "?". If none of the above characters occurs, the whole URL is then a hostname.

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: section.example.com will be identified as the hostname

phrase: example will not be identified as a hostname
phrase: com will not be identified as a hostname
phrase: example.com will not be identified as a hostname

Hostname sub-domain
This is a substring of characters placed before the first occurrence of "/" , ":" or "?" (if any of the above characters occurs in the URL address). This subsequence cannot be preceded by a sign different than "." , and following this substring cannot occur a character different than "/", "?" or ":".

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: example.com will be identified as a host sub-domain
phrase: com will be identified as a host sub-domain

phrase: example will not be identified as a host sub-domain

Path substring
This is a substring of characters before the first "/" and before the first occurrence of "?" (in the case when "?" occurs in the URL address).

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: first/index.php will be identified as a path substring
phrase: index will be identified as a path substring
phrase: rst/ind will be identified as a path substring

phrase: com/first will not be identified as a path substring

Path sequence
This is a substring of characters meeting the condition of the type "Path substring" and additionally it has to be preceded by the character "/" and following this substring cannot occur a character other than "/" or "?".

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: first/index.php will be identified as a path sequence
phrase: index.php will be identified as a path sequence

phrase: index will not be identified as a path sequence
phrase: rst/ind will not be identified as a path sequence

Parameter substring
This is a substring of characters before the first occurrence of "?".

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: a=x will be identified as a parameter substring
phrase: x&b will be identified as a parameter substring
phrase: y will be identified as a parameter substring

phrase: php?a=x will not be identified as a parameter substring

Parameter sequence
It is defined as a substring of characters meeting the condition for the type "Parameter substring" and additionally it has to be preceded by one of the following characters: "?", "=", "&", ";" and following this substring cannot occur a character other than: "=", "&", ";".

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: a=x will be identified as the parameter sequence
phrase: x&b will be identified as the parameter sequence
phrase: y_z will be identified as the parameter sequence
phrase: x&b=y_z will be identified as the parameter sequence

phrase: y will not be identified as the parameter sequence

URL substring
This is any substring of characters in a URL address.

Examples:
URL: section.example.com/first/index.php?a=x&b=y_z
phrase: ample.co will be identified as a URL substring
phrase: hp?a=x&b=y_ will be identified as a URL substring

phrase: index.php?b=y_z&a=x will not be identified as a URL substring

At the same time there is a possibility to set complex filters. For example, a user can select the data collected for URL addresses and containing the expressions "photos" and "holidays", but not containing the word "lakes".

The conditions are joined by operators:

AND - all conditions have to be fulfilled.
For example, if you select the expression "photo" and "sport", when joining them with this operator, you will receive data for those URL's that contain both of them, e.g.:
example.com/foto.php?page=Content:sportPage
example.com/index.php?page=sportPage&zone=3&stat=fotoDay
but not
section.example.com/index.php?page=sportPage&zone=3&stat=sportDay

OR - at least one condition has to be fulfilled.
For example, if you select the expressions "photo" and "sport", joining them with the operator, you will receive data for the URL's containing the first expression, the second one and those containing both of them, e.g.:
example.com/index.php?page=Content:sportPage
section.example.com/index.php?page=Content:fotoPage&zone=3&stat=fotoDay
and also
section.example.com/index.php?page=fotoPage&zone=3&stat=sportDay

The condition joined with the previous one(s) through the use of the operator "AND" can be added through selecting the command "add expression". The condition joined with the previous one(s) with the use of the operator "OR" can be added through selecting the command "add group".
The meaning of this is that a group is created by a few expressions joined with "AND". The groups can be connected with the operator "OR". This allows for presenting a logic condition e.g. in the following way: (expression1 AND expression2 AND expression3) OR (expression4 AND expression5) OR (expression6).

The data for a newly created filtering node starts to accumulate about 4-6 hours after its setting. While selecting a node, a user receives data concerning the group of web pages selected with the use of this filter.

URL conversion into small letters

A possibility to convert URL addresses within a given account has been added in the tab "Administration".

With this, URL's will always be treated as typed in small letters - irrespctive of whether e.g. an Internet user visiting the web site provides the address in small letters:
example.com/index.html?page=auto
or some capital letters will also be used, e.g:
example.com/index.html?page=AUTO

For both addresses data will be counted together and presented in the account after selecting the URL: example.com/index.html?page=auto

This has certain meaning for example for web sites, and precisely while recognizing URL's corresponding to web pages being displayed when an Internet user sends a query. The keyword entered by this user in a browser search space is a part of such a URL address. Regardless of whether it was typed in small letters, e.g.: "copenhagen", or with the use of capital letters, e.g.: "Copenhagen" or "COPENHAGEN" - URL's containing them will be treated equally in the gemiusTraffic research and the data concerning them will be counted jointly.

Please note! If URL addresses within the same web site differ meaningfully in terms of letter size, that is under each URL address there is a separate web page - after setting the function of letter conversion, the URL's will no longer be differentiated and consequently all data will be computed together (separating the already counted statistics will not be possible).

At the moment when a user resigns from this option - URL's will be differentiated again. Data for each URL will be counted separately from the moment of introducing the change (there will be no backward counting).

The other changes

In addition, as part of interface development, we have introduced a number of minor improvements:

- The number format has been changed; full stops are now used as grouping separators. For example, the number one million is written as 1.000.000.

This modification was made to the entire interface, except for the "Quick stats" panel.

- In the "URL" tab, the number of URL's that can be displayed within a single node has been increased from twenty to fifty. Besides, by clicking the "Show more" button, you will be able to view more of the data collected than before.

- A new feature has been introduced that enables the user to retrieve data included in the URL tab as an Excel file. A file like this will be generated once the user clicks the green "X" icon located in the right-hand upper corner of the data table. Thus, all the data being displayed at a given moment in the interface are made available to the user in XLS format.
