The proportion of female and male visitors on the Lithuanian Internet reversed again

The publication of the latest results of the gemiusAudience Internet research gave an opportunity to evaluate changes concerning the Internet audience, which took place on the Lithuanian Internet within the last half of the year - from winter to summer. Comparing the data from June 2006 and December 2005 concerning the proportion of women and men on the Lithuanian Internet we can notice a significant change. In June 2006 we observed a relative balance in terms of the number of visitors. The share of women was 50.2% while men constituted 49.8%. It is vital to notice, however, that in December 2005 the proportion of male and female visitors was totally different.

In December 2005 the number of women amounted to 47.3 % and men constituted 52.7%. In June 2006 an average man spent 10 hours and 33 minutes on the Internet, generating 720 page views, while for the average woman these numbers amounted to 11 hours 22 minutes and 783 page views. The difference in comparison with winter (December) results was mostly caused by reduced activity on the Internet by men and great activity of women which hasn't not been reduced as a usual trend in summer.

Comparing the recently published results of the research conducted in June 2006 with what was happening six months earlier, in December 2005 in the TOP 10 five sites changed their position among them four got higher and only one fell down. Ilrytas moved from the ninth to the fifth position, draugas.lt moved from no. 8 in the ranking to no. 7, ieskok.lt from the eleventh position to no. 9 and omni.lt fell from the fifth to the eight position. Supermama.lt got into the TOP 10 from the thirteenth to the tenth position. Delfi.lt, one.lt, takas.lt, autoplius.lt and klase.lt kept their hitherto positions.

Taking into consideration the first ten websites in the last six months from December 2005 to June 2006 the absolute leader in growth turned out to be lrytas.lt, of the TOP 10 which reached the record growth in the number of visitors 82 000 (50%), as well as page views - 6 million (almost 2,5 times!) The biggest influence on such growth has the new structure of the web site and the new policy of the web site, which decided to give most its articles for free. The most popular sites have strengthened their position delfi.lt, one.lt, zebra.lt (former takas.lt) and autoplius.lt have increased their number of visitors. A huge rise was recorded by autoplius.lt by 71 000 visitors (28.23%), by one.lt by 74 000 visitors (17%) and by Delfi.lt by 85 000 visitors (14.9%) . In the case of those sites there was also increase in the average number of page views per user. Significant growth was recorded by one.lt, on average by 150 million page views (70.46%), by autoplius.lt by 20 million page views (65.92%) and by delfi.lt by 13 million page views (20.85%).

The Lithuanian Internet market is growing dynamically. It is easy to notice when ones takes into consideration the rise of activity of Internet users. The total number of visitors (real users) grew by about 116 000 visitors, which is 14.6% since December to June 2006. What interesting is that even the summer season did not stopped the growth, which is an unusual trend.

Thanks to the gemiusAudience monthly research we can notice constant growth and specific trends which take place on the Internet on the Lithuanian market. The summer season has influence, as any other media, on the behaviour of users but the trend of growing remains despite it.
